Top Ten Books With People on the Cover
5/02/2017
The Broke and the Bookish have decided to do a cover freebie for this week's Top Ten Tuesday! It's quite difficult to come up with a good topic when your mind is left to roam free. Many books have people on the cover, but not so many are actually successful in looking professional. However, there are still a good few that look fantastic! So here are my top ten, which range from drawings of people to certain body parts to photographs.
Memoirs of a Geisha
by Arthur Golden – This cover is simple and classic. Just by looking at it
you know what it’s about, there are so many book covers with women’s lips on
but I feel like this one has a purpose.
The Selection by
Kiera Cass – Okay I must admit, The Selection is on my list for the ball-gown,
not so much for the girl posing. But look at it! It’s such a gorgeous dress,
and you can’t show a ball-gown without the person in it.
Night Circus by Erin
Morgenstern – What a magical cover. The silhouette of the woman and man
passing each other, with the pop of red from her scarf is stunning.
The Book Thief by
Markus Zusak – Liesel is literally dancing with death on The Book Thief’s
cover. You can’t get any more symbolic than that!
Water for Elephants
by Sara Gruen – One of my favourite covers. The woman on the front is just
stunning, and her costume is beautiful. It doesn’t reveal much, just shows a
bit of glamour from the costume.
Time Traveller’s Wife
by Audrey Niffenegger – Just the ankles of little Clare waiting patiently for
Henry to arrive. Yet another cover that uses people to represent a character
and a big theme of the book.
Wicked by Gregory
McGuire – An iconic image, I’m sure everyone recognises this one! I just
love Elphaba’s smirk, so sassy! Plus, it perfectly sums up part of the twist
from the classic tale of The Wizard of Oz.
The Name of the Wind by
Patrick Rothfuss – Kvothe is written to be a mysterious figure, with tonnes
of rumours circling, none of which are completely true. His hooded silhouette
fulfils in summing this up to the tee.
Miss Peregrine’s Home
for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs – There are lots of photos in this
book, most are of people and most are very creepy. The photo of the little girl
on the cover definitely gives the book a ghostly introduction.
The Girl with All the
Gifts by M. R. Carey – So much innonence and power is portrayed in this
silhouette of Melanie, with her arms splayed out and her hair blowing in the
wind.
So it turns out I seem to like anything that's pretty or symbolic. Who knew? Now it's my turn to ask you: What topic have you done for this Top Ten Tuesday? And tell me, what book covers with people do you like?

You have so many good covers on your list! I love The Selection cover too. It's definitely the best of the ball gown covers. I also love The Night Circus and The Time Traveler's Wife. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely is the best ball gown cover! Although I never realised just how many covers had girls in beautiful dresses until I looked through our people's TTT. :)
DeleteThe cover for The Girl With All the Gifts is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI also really like the cover for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
Here is my TTT.
It's so simplistic isn't! It gives a message without revealing too much. I'm glad you like them.
DeleteI'm a huge fan of these covers, and The Name of the Wind is one of my favorite books, although I own it on audio. I should really track down a physical copy.
ReplyDeleteSame here! Although, I borrowed it from my brother so I don't even have a copy myself. I've heard the audio is fantastic!

ReplyDeleteI think the Water for Elephants book is an old copy, I nabbed it from a charity shop! Thanks! ^.^
DeleteI wasn't that keen on the Night Circus as a book, but it's cover is stunning! I wish I had that version of The Book Thief, the cover I have is nowhere near as pretty.
