10 Books From Romance/Contemporary That I've Recently Added To My TBR List

Following on from last week's Top Ten Tuesday, the Broke and the Bookish have tasked us with listing the 10 books from a certain genre that we've recently added to our TBRs. Seeming as last week was all about upcoming releases, that's a lot! Don't mind me while I just cry in the corner..
Anyway, romance is a love love love for me, especially during summer, so that will be my focus for today!
Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
I had no idea Jenny Han had released another book in this trilogy until I joined the YA community read the first two during the summer, so I must do the same again! i.e. as soon as possible!
Just One Year by Gayle Forman
Gayle Forman is a genius. Every book she has written has been beautiful, from what I've read so far at least. Just One Day is one of my favourite books of the year so far, so I had to go out and buy the sequel. By the way, you can read my review of Allyson's side of the story here.
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
As usual Netflix has taken the internet by storm with one of its own tv shows. 13 Reasons Why has created heavy debates and memes everywhere. I recently finished the series with my friends, I broke a rule I know, I watched the show first. I'm curious to see how the show differs from the book.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Technically, this has been on TBR list for a number of years. However, sometimes books get forgotten, and end up at the bottom of the pile. It was hidden by other books, I had to double stack! That's my excuse anyway. Stephanie Perkins' novel has been playing on my mind after I had a gander at some of the books hidden at the back of my shelf. Now that she's releasing a horror novel too, it's even more important to get Anna and the French Kiss read as soon as possible!
When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
Thank you YA community! I had no idea this book existed until I started doing Top Ten Tuesdays. An arranged marriage romantic comedy book surrounding indian-american teens. It sounds fantastic! I haven't read many diverse books either, what better way to improve that than this?
Once and For All by Sarah Dessen
Another book that I would be unaware of if it wasn't for the YA community. While researching for upcoming book releases I discovered this beauty. The main character is the daughter of a wedding planner! Of course this had to go on my TBR!
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
About a month ago I had a fellow book lover visit where I work. We had a delightful chat about books and theatre, and he recommended My Sister's Keeper. Apparently its very different to the film? I've been meaning to read it before but it hadn't been a priority at all. I didn't even own the book, until now!
You Had Me At Hello by Mhairi McFarlane
Last year I read It's Not Me It's You, to cut it short, I detested it. Sadly, I found it very disappointing. Many people on Goodreads said that her other novels are much better. I've been meaning to give her novels another go since last year, and I found this book in a charity shop, so why not?
Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert
I've heard that Brandy Colbert's first book, Pointe, is amazing. Plus, in most of the contemporary novels involving mental illness, the main character is the one that suffers with it. I'd really like to see how bipolar is portrayed in this novel, especially from a sister's point of view.
A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland
A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares is another book that I discovered thanks to last week's topic. It sounds like there's a mix of fantasy in a regular theme. I mean, mental illness is portrayed a lot in novels now, so a twist on it is fantastic!
I fear I may explode if I add anymore contemporary novels to my TBR. Let's stick with those for now. Hopefully 10/10 will be fantastic! Are you participating in Top Ten Tuesday too? I'd love to know what you're planning to read, so let me know in the comments below.

DeleteI've been really enjoying contemporaries lately, so this is a fun list. :) I wanted to read You Had Me at Hello and never got to it- eek- I need to get that one. I think it's still sitting on my Goodreads shelf too lol. Hopefully this one will be better for you than It's Not Me!

Delete13 Reasons Why has had mixed reviews from a few friends of mine. Plus, I love seeing how a book differs from its film/tv adaptations.
My most recent contemp was Girl Out of Water, about a surfer girl from Cali who has to go to Nebraska to care for an ailing relative- all summer. And she meets a guy. :) It was pretty good. Oh and One Of Us Is Lying- just read that one, it's like Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars. And amazingly, I thought it worked. :)
DeleteGirl Out of Water sounds really interesting, I've never read about a surfer girl. I'll have a look into that one. I love Breakfast Club, and any John Hughes film! One Of Us Is Lying is going straight on my TBR list! :D

DeleteGreat list! Most of these titles are new to me as I don't tend to read much contemporary, but some of them have definitely caught my eye.
ReplyDeleteI have the Netflix series on my 'to watch' list so I might give that a go then read the book afterwards if I enjoy it :)
I hadn't heard of over half of these books till joining Top Ten Tuesday, so I guess I'm fairly similar. I tend to read a mix of genres, when I do read contemporary it's normally got romance involved. I'm a sucker for those stories, especially the slow burn ones!

DeleteThis is such a great list with some books I'm dying to get to. I read and loved To All the Boys I've Loved Before, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the sequel? I'm hoping the third book will make up for it, though! Little & Lion is another book that's flying under the radar, but one I NEED to get to. Hope you enjoy When Dimple Met Rishi - it's super cute. :)

I really liked the sequel, although I much preferred To All the Boys I've Loved Before. I keep on putting off reading the third one in case I don't enjoy it as much. Even though I'm excited too! Little & Lion has been mentioned a lot lately. Have you read When Dimple Met Rishi then? I really hope I do enjoy it! :D

Just One Year, Thirteen Reasons Why, Anna: Yes!! All great books! I do think that the tv show is overall better than the book but I do like the more subdued version in the book. Anna is still one of my favourite contemporary YA. <3 Actually I think all of these books are amazing, and the rest are on my TBR. :)
